WordPress htaccess and 404 error

I have just bought a Cloak and Tracker software, I have tested it, and it works great. This is actually the first Cloak and Tracker software that I have found that works great for both Windows and Mac. You don’t have to use a MySQL database, you just click on a few buttons and everything is close to automatic.

Anyway, I have experienced a few problems, but they are not related to the software. They are related to my lack of knowledge when it comes to WordPress and servers and many other things as well.

I have two options when I use the software. I can go with the standard options, and get a url like likes?cloaktrack after the domain name. Or I could go for the advanced option, where I could get a url like domain.com/likes/name/. It looks a lot better with the advanced option.

So, I tried to make the advanced option to work. I just had to add a line to my .htaccess file and the line was the following:

ErrorDocument 404 /likes/index.php

I did that, and guess what? Nothing happened. My links were just redirected to my standard 404 error page. I then found out that wordpress had a different 404 error page, the 404.php file.

I am not sure what to do next. What does the line ErrorDocument 404 /likes/index.php really mean? Will every single page not found error be redirected to /go/index.php or is it only error pages inside the /go folder?

Anyway, I don’t understand how to edit my .htaccess file in order to get the advanced settings of the Cloak and Tracker software to work. I guess it’s no big deal, but I just don’t get it.

It seems that it doesn’t matter how I edit my .htaccess file when it comes to ErrorDocument, because the 404.php file is the only one that works. I am not sure if I can let this problem go unresolved, I tried Google and nothing yet, I have tried the WordPress support forums, and nothing yet.
