This is the first post of a series of posts about branding. The reason I am writing about it, is because branding a business is an essential step that any business owner need to take. And, at the moment, I am thinking about how our college should be branding ourselves – because I really don’t think that we have a strong brand.
Branding – a definition
When I write about a brand, I am basically writing about a name or a logo that represents your company or business, but it can also be a slogan and the design scheme associated with your product or service. The brand will be used in marketing campaigns, and it will be used when printing out your business cards and when referring to your company. A brand is who you are, what you do, and how you do it.
There are several reasons why you should think about branding your business. They are all related to your business goals.
Creating Business Identity
Branding is about creating a purple cow. You need to be different, there are probably already other similar businesses to yours. Therefore, you need to create a brand for your business that will differentiate you from your competitors.
People should be able to remember your business. Distinction is a vital part of every business venture and when people find that you have something unique to offer that lets you stand out from the crowd.
Once you have created your brand, you need to look into delivering quality products.
Marketing your brand
A brand is a way for people to easily remember who you are, and a way for them to recognize your top quality products.
Take the time to let people know who you are, what you do, and how you do it. It’s about communicating your vision through your brand. It’s about creating awareness of the products and services you are promoting.
When people hear or see your brand, they should think of your products and your reputation.
Your brand is your identity.
