A few days ago I experienced my worst nightmare as a speaker, but it also turned out to be an awesome example of what marketing is all about.
The marketing experience was related to the story of the pizza delivery guy. I was almost as thrilled as I was that particular day when the pizza delivery guy gave me a ride home.
Now, let me tell you the story.
I had to run to the local Apple store, Eplehuset (a Norwegian store selling Apple products), and buy an adapter from my MacBook Pro to a projector. I had very little time, I had 150 people waiting for me to speak, and I had to buy the adapter and get everything to work in exactly 15 minutes.
I ran to the store, got inside, and it was a line of people. Just my luck.
I wasn’t sure what to do. I didn’t want to be rude, but I didn’t have time to stand in line. I walked up to the counter and told the guy what had happened, and if I could buy an adapter with me.
At that time I realized I didn’t have my wallet, and I didn’t have any kind of identification with me.
The guy smiled and said sure, he told me to come back when I was finished at the conference. I couldn’t believe it.
This is what marketing is all about, deliver wow through service just like Zappos.
