A lot of people, especially my clients, are asking me the question, what is search engine marketing? Today I will try to answer it by providing you with 12 videos. The reason people are asking is that most people and businesses are starting to understand the importance of the search engines. We are all using search engines every single day, so the first thing we need to ask is why are we using search engines, and what are we looking for?
What is search engine marketing – an introduction
Let’s start with an introduction. The easiest way to answer what is search engine marketing is to say that it’s about making your website visible in the search engines. We’re trying to make it to the top, or at least among the top 5 on Google. But, search engine marketing has changed. And now we need to take into consideration that social media matters as well.
Let’s get started.
Keyword research is very important when it comes to search engine marketing. And, I spend a lot of time finding the most valuable keywords. You can use different software to help you with the research, and Long Tail Pro is one of the easiest to use, and still it’s one of the best I have tried.
If you’ve been doing SEO for a while, you’ve probably heard of Panda and Penguin. That’s the updates to the Google algorithm, and a lot of websites got hit badly because of the changes in 2012. And, that’s exactly why you need to learn about the latest Google changes. Always be one step ahead of your competition. This is what you should be doing.
I am using WordPress, and I am telling all my clients to use WordPress as well. It’s very easy to set up, and the search engines loves it.
It’s very important to get detailed statistics on who’s visiting your site, and where they are coming from. If you install Google Analytics, you can get a great overview and you’ll understand what you need to be doing in order to get more visitors.
The real power of WordPress is all the incredible plugins. You can find thousands of free and really amazing plugins that will help you with search engine marketing. But first, you need to understand how to install plugins and how to find the standard plugins you should be using from day one.
When people ask me what is search engine marketing, one of the things I always talk about is the importance of good design. I am not a web-designer, but I understand that a good looking design is very important for search engine marketing. You don’t have to get a custom design, but you need a premium theme. With a good design, your visitors are more likely to stay on your site.
Social media triggers are becoming more important, and you need to understand that you need to be active on social media in order to rank among the top 10 in the search engines. It’s not just about sharing anymore, but you need to be active and become an authority in your niche.
Backlinking is still important. You need to get links from other websites to your website, but it’s not just about the amount of links, it’s more important that you get links from high quality sites that are relevant to your website.
Content is still the most important part of search engine marketing. We need to create high quality content, and we need to do research to find the “perfect” content.
I understand that videos are more important than ever when it comes to search engines and attracting visitors. But, I don’t recommend that you start with videos. Creating videos as part of your marketing strategy is the next step, and it’s not that hard, even if you’re terrible at creating videos. Start by testing, and there are software that will help you automate the process.
