Use A Yahoo Voice Account For Your Business

Remember, a few days ago I wrote a post about Skype and free pc to phone calling. Well, Skype is not a way to call for free from your computer to a regular telephone. You can use Skype for the call, but you will have to pay rather low rates.

Now, I am going to write about Yahoo voice. It’s similar to Skype, but also a little different.

Yahoo voice is a low cost alternative to phone communication.  A yahoo voice account enables users to make calls to landlines and mobile phones from their PC.  Yahoo offers several options including a phone out account which gives users the ability to call from their computer and a phone in account which gives users the ability to receive calls at their PC.  Yahoo messenger also gives users the ability to send and receive text messages.

As I did with the post about Skype, I will give you instructions on how to set up a yahoo voice account.

Step 1.  Visit  You’ll see a menu that gives you an option of choosing phone out, phone in and how much you want to purchase.  Yahoo Voice is a prepaid service.  You can choose between $10 or $25.  Before you can sign up for a yahoo voice account you’ll need to become a yahoo member.  At the top of the page you’ll see a sign up button.  Click on it and it’ll take you to a basic account set up page that requires your name, email, and password setup.  Once you’ve completed that step, you can signup for Yahoo Voice.

Step 2.  Here’s how to sign up for the Phone Out option:
In the main Messenger window, click the Phone Out button below your name.  The Subscribe to Yahoo! Voice window will open.  Select a prepaid amount, then click the Sign Up button.

Step 3.  The Yahoo! Voice Phone Out web page will open and you’ll be prompted to pay for your credit towards your Phone Out service.  Once you’re finished paying for your credit, you’ll see your Phone Out balance displayed below your name. This amount will update after each call made.

Step 4.  Select your preferences including your country and click the OK button to close the window.

Step 5.  Now you can begin making calls!

      Hi Akram,

I haven’t talked to anyone at Yahoo, but I believe that as long as you can use it for personal things, you can also use it for business. It’s only a matter of you defining what you do, Yahoo doesn’t have to be involved in how you use it 🙂

How do you actuall talk – do you plug in a handset or use speakers on PC? Can you get a headset with mic? If so where do I get those?

I am not sure, but I think that you would use a mic and the speakers on your computer (headset with a mic). You can buy that in almost any store that sells computers.
