Top Inbound Marketing Strategies

Note from Jens: I’m currently on vacation in Italy, and you probably know exactly what I’m doing right now. That’s right. I’m eating pizza.

I’m so greatful to get help from Teresa, who’ve written this guest post. As you may know, I am about to launch a video blog for the college where I’m working, so inbound marketing is at the top of my priority list. I believe that inbound marketing is all about stepping out from the shadows and showing the world who we really are. I’m reaching out to the community to get all the help I can possibly get, especially when it comes to learning different methods of inbound marketing and how I should be doing it. Let’s discuss the top inbound marketing strategies in the comments.

Here’s Teresa for you:

Inbound marketing strategies are the most primary ways to attract clients and stay connected with them. So no matter you own a small boutique or you offer accounting services to small businesses, using inbound marketing strategies is very beneficial to keep your business up and running. Inbound marketing strategies draw to your business customers who are looking for information about the products and services you offer. Therefore, you must have an idea about inbound marketing strategies that you can utilize for your business.

Social Media

With the advance web technology, there are various social media sites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, which can help you increase your visibility. Through these sites you can share your business ideas, tips and company news with the customers. It’s up to customers whether they want to fan, like or follow a business, so they initiate contact, showing that they have an interest in your business.

You can create a business blog through which you can share content, video and pictures of your company with customers. This is one of the best ways for the businesses to discuss company news such as product launches and sales, as well as issues related to the products and services they offer. Well written information and tips in the blog often encourage customers to share stories with their friends, family and business associates. This publicizes your blog as well as the business.

E-Book and Downloadable Reports

E-Books and online reports are mostly popular among business-to-business community. They typically target entrepreneurs and professionals. Instant downloads tied-in with signing up to receive free email newsletters that a company distributes. This also let the business identify the potential customers who would be interested in their products or services.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization is to be utilized for the purpose of attracting potential customers to the site. You must use the best keywords that are relevant to your products or services in order to attract a huge traffic to your brand through organic searches. Companies like Google, Adwords and Word Tracker help you to find out terms, which customers use for searching the products and services you offer.

White Papers

White papers educate customers by presenting a business problem and offering solution to the problem. People who purchase white papers from your site or blog indicate that they are interested in your products and services.

Video Marketing

Video marketing is another important marketing strategy through which you can talk to customers by uploading videos to popular social media sites and video sites, and can share information on your blog and website. You can also demonstrate new uses for a product, give customers a sneak peek of new packaging ideas and get feedback. Thus, this gives businesses their brands to life.

Landing Page

You can set up a landing page dedicated to your product, service or brand in order to educate visitors about what you offer, providing them with features and benefits through the use of videos, pictures and testimonials. You can also include a call-to-action on the end of the page asking visitors to sign up, or make purchase, depending on the goal of your landing page.

In conclusion, these are the most important inbound marketing strategies that help all the businesses to attract customers to their products and services.

I hope you enjoy the Pizza! πŸ™‚

Nice article on inbound marketing. I think you certainly hit all the highlights. I think that combinations of all of these are essential. Every method is like a hook in the water. Some hooks may catch more than others, but each one will get some prospects that the other ones would completely miss.

    • Jens says:

      Hey Steve,

I’m just back from my vacation, and I’ve been eating delicious pizza every single day for 14 days πŸ™‚

I’m trying what you’re preaching and combining the methods. I’m actually doing my best to create some quality videos. It’s hard and very time consuming, but I believe it’s worth it.

  2. Brock Blohm says:

    I’m with you.

I’m a huge fan of video. I can get a message to someone much faster and build relationships at the same time. People are able to read me, my gestures, my mannerisms, and the way I speak.
Great SEO is a great desire for everybody. If you can nail this, you are doing great πŸ˜‰
    Great info!

    • Jens says:

      Hi Brock,

Yes, I’m also a huge fan of videos. The only problem is that they are hard to create. At least high quality vidoes are hard to create. I’m doing my best to do it right now, and I’m using ScreenFlow to create my video tutorials.

Marketing is one of the ways that a business can be successful…We have to give our best for it…

I had not tried ebook and download reports. I guess, I should have hands on them. Thanks for wonderful information.

    • Jens says:

I have tried both ebooks and reports, and what I’ve learned is that you don’t have to write very long ebooks or very detailed reports for them to work. I’ve read some amazing short reports and they work very well when it comes to marketing and creating great long lasting relationships.

Hi Jens, I hope you’re not eating to much Pizza πŸ˜‰

Hi Teresa, I am using some of the methods you’ve mentioned here and trying to improve them as I go. I’ve only just started using all of the Social Media sites you’ve mentioned. Until a few weeks ago I only used Twitter and found it always in my top 5 traffic referral sites.

In the last few weeks I’ve signed up to LinkedIn, FB and G+ and have set up feeds to keep my blog content and comments being fed to the sites. After just a few short weeks G+ and FB are already showing up in the Top Ten Traffic referral sites.

Video is a huge traffic magnet and recently I held a challenge on my blog to encourage people to start making them. Many people took up the challenge and have now started adding video to their blogs, so I’ll be interested in seeing the traffic stats for those that took part.

    Great post Teresa,

    Thanks, Barry

    • Jens says:

      Hi Barry,

I’m back, and unfortunately I have been eating way too much pizza. You won’t see any new photos of me in a while πŸ™‚

I have signed up with a lot of social media sites as well. I know it’s important to be present “everywhere”, but I’m not sure if it’s even more important to be really good at one thing instead of just a little on everything (if you know what I mean)? So far, Twitter is that I concentrate on. I use Facebook a little, and I’ve been testing G+. But LinkedIn is not something I’ve been focusing on at all. I’m there, but that’s all I am. And I’m updating it automatic with my feed.

talking about loans, Most of my salary towards my loans. One of the primary reasons I started to focus on making money with blogs is that I can manage with the extra income I get.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Eddie,

I use most of my salary to pay for my loans as well. I have a student loan, and another one for the house. I won’t manage to get out of debt until I’m very very old πŸ™‚

Hopefully we can help each other out online, and make that extra income…

  7. Koen Verbrugge says:

Kinda disapointed here.. These are tactics not strategies. Example: If you’re strategy is to empower customers in aftersales to instigate WOM & demonstrate the effects of your product through testimonials, it could be a tacticly wise to use a blog in conversion with social media.. Social media is never a strategy

  8. Samantha says:

Well Honestly almost all the business start from marketing for them to become successful, aside from that without this , your business will fall for sure.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Samantha,

I believe that the big problem is that a lot of people don’t understand what marketing is all about, and that it’s not about advertising at all. It’s about creating relationships and trust.

  9. Mark Errol says:

I’ve only tried using social media, video marketing and blogging as my inbound marketing strategies. I never tried to use the rest of the strategies. If it would not be a problem to you, I would like to know if those strategies that I didn’t mention a while ago are also effective to attract new customers like the first ones. Do they have a significant contribution in attracting potential customers?

    • Jens says:

      Hi Mark,

I belive that a combination of all the strategies are the most effective “method”. I use social media a lot, but providing quality content like reports and ebooks to your friends on social media, that’s a great way to create relationships.

  11. Chris the traffic blogger says:

It’s important to pick a home base out of these options that is the central link between them all.

Otherwise you end up with a bunch of random readers all with different experiences finding you. It’s easier if you funnel them all into a central sales page or email list.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Chris,

You’re absolutely right. My home base is my blog (this blog). I have seen that a lot of people are using a landing page as their home base, in order to get people to sign up for their list. What’s your advice on this?

  12. Murray says:

So much of it, when you look at it, is really about syndication of your message across multiple platforms. Gone are the days when someone is ONLY going to find you through online ads or Google searches – people are EVERYWHERE so you need to be, as well.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Murray,

Yes, we are syndicating our messages across multiple platforms. But, we should also be more personal as well. Like with Twitter, I try to engage in “personal” one-to-one conversations and not just pushing information. I believe that’s a great strategy.

  13. Joe says:

This what an Seo Link building consist of.You have showed Exact way of strategy that i use and get best results. This strategy is not implemented by many of the Seo analysts.
I know at my previous office i had been warned to not to do so and restricted as its not an organic Seo can’t really understand why.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Joe,

I haven’t done much when it comes to SEO link building, but it sure is important.

To me, search engine optimization is one of the many strategies that we should be using. And it sure is one that I should focus on sometime soon πŸ™‚

  16. Kathryn F Koopman says:

When it comes to promoting and marketing of products and services, it is important that every business owner will be able to choose the most relevant strategy. Selecting the most effective strategy is considered to be one of the most difficult task of every business owner because this can make them or break them as well.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Kathryn,

Absolutely. I believe that we should be testing new strategies as well, and combine them. For instance, my main goal is to get to know people and create personal relationships with my customers. That’s very important for the level of trust. I use various methods, but I’m always personal, no matter the methods I use.

  17. Brittany at Sprout Social says:

Definitely all part of a comprehensive inbound marketing strategy! I think the only thing I’d add would be that any business who truly wants to succeed with inbound marketing (especially social media and blogging) needs to truly be engaged, present and consistent. Anyone can set up a Facebook or Twitter account, but ignoring mentions, comments, and complaints from customers won’t do any good.

Especially for smaller companies, I think these tips can help show your industry knowledge and eventually bring in more business!

    • Jens says:

      Hi Brittany,

I find it very interesting that so many companies are not blogging and not engaging in social media other than small/short campaigns. To me, marketing should be engaging and about creating long lasting relationships with the customers. We can do this fairly easy by creating relevant content.

  18. Alex Blaken says:

Frankyly speaking social media and the google plus project has been a success for most online businesses. Video marketing is vital but has to be welled mastered to produce amazing results. Thanks for sharing these strategies

    • Jens says:

      Hi Alex,

Social media is very important, and if we combine social media with video, I believe that we can get amazing results. That’s what I’m currently working on. It’s hard to create videos though πŸ™‚

  19. Emilie says:

Social media nowadays are very important in business and communication…They are always a help…

    • Caleb says:

I definitely think if you use social media the correct way the ROI on there can be great. The only thing you invest is your time and not any money. Time is money but at the same time many other advertising methods require money and one that doesn’t is something to check out for sure especially small businesses.

      • Jens says:

Absolutely. I’ve seen a huge response on FB after we started creating videos. The same goes for being personal and doing one to one conversations via Twitter.

  20. Dan says:

Some great tactics, I think there is very little excuse to be using outbound push tactics before you have these setup at least.

  21. Sherrie says:

People want strategies and this is because it can be helpful to their business…

  22. Jac Evans says:

Marketing is not an easy thing. We must include same attractive factors in marketing.

  23. Steve says:

The white papers suggestion is a great one, and something I had never considered. Offering a solution to a problem is one of the most powerful marketing techniques there is…and now I’m going to have to give this a try. My head is spinning with ideas. Thanks a bunch.
