I’m staring at the ceiling. I’m not afraid, not anymore. He’s gentle, he talks with a soft and tender voice. He tells me to relax.
I’m trying, but I can’t.
The reason?
I’m staring straight at Jesus Christ and he’s staring back at me.
I’m in the chair, my dentist is fixing my teeth and he has a a huge painting of Jesus attached to the ceiling, just above the chair.
Why?
That’s what I’m thinking. Why does a dentist add a painting of Jesus to his ceiling?
I’m not adding a thought when it comes to my teeth, and what he’s currently doing inside my mouth. I used to care, a lot. The painting made me forget why I’m really here.
It doesn’t help me become a religious man, if that’s his goal.
Why not?
The painting is not relevant to why I’m there, and why I’m in this specific chair.
If I was currently staring at a painting of a toothpaste, then I’d probably end up buying the toothpaste.
But then again, I wouldn’t have stopped thinking about where I was and what was happening inside my mouth. I wouldn’t have been as surprised, although a painting of a toothpaste attached to the ceiling might be a little odd as well.

I used to have a dentist that designed her own building. The entire ceiling was a mosaic done in various wood tones. She had commissioned an artist for it and depending on which chair you ended up in, you had a completely different view of it. It was amazing to look at and it really did help to keep one occupied.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome dentist. I would probably have visited her more than I should, even though I really don't like to go to the dentist
She was awesome and I really miss her. I was very unhappy when our dental plan changed and I had to find a new dentist.

thats amazing idea adding such painting on the ceiling, it helps to divert your mind away from whats happening in your mouth & keep you away from fear
Towards the end of the event several people came up and made a point of telling me, that my initial introduction was wrong and that I was really a nice guy. And some of those people still talk to me today, so I take it they weren’t lying.
Excellent! Great article, I already saved it to my favourite,

I have actually just been to a few dentists, and the only one that had anything in the ceiling is my current one. I love it. It takes my mind off whatever is happening inside my mouth. I just keep staring at the picture and it feels like I am dreaming
Thanks a lot for your comment.
Nice to hear it from you that you feel like your dreaming every time you’ve seen those pictures in the ceiling and I’m sure you can’t feel the pain anymore. I have been visits one of the dentist that has a picture in their ceiling and it looks nice and relax. Because while we are staring at those pictures or even in one picture, many imaginations comes in our mind from it. I actually appreciate their idea.
