I have never tried running a contest before, so yesterday's contest was a new experience for me. I didn't do it because I was looking for extra traffic, but that's exactly what happened.

Let me start from the beginning.

Since I switched to Drupal, due to my week of misery, I have been looking for a new design. I had already ordered the design, and it was ready for Wordpress, but I didn't receive the version for Drupal.

Monday morning, five days ago, I had to call in sick. As soon as I got out of bed at 5.30 a.m., I realized that I should get back in bed and stay there. I did. I slept another two hours, got up, and did the necessary stuff to let the people at work know that I was staying home.

Ahem.

Here's a short story for you.

A few days ago, I was attending a meeting at the college where I work. All the deans were attending, and we were talking about marketing. One of the them said something like, "we don't have to focus on marketing, because everybody is satisfied with the quality of our website. All the information to new and potential students are at our website, so why use resources on marketing?"

Now, I have to give you my reply.

It might sound easy, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Here it comes; there are only three ways that people can discover your website. Think about it for a second. There are only three ways. If you cover them all, you'll get massive traffic to your website.

People will find your website:

1. by using a search engine
2. by clicking on links on other websites
3. by word of mouth

An ezine is really just a newsletter usually sent to you by email. Some people call it an online magazine, and that’s also what it is. You should really be building relationships using Twitter, if you do, it will increase the traffic to your website. Making new friends is quite easy with social media and that goes for Twitter as well.
