Last week, I decided to test a social bookmarketing service on Fiverr. The gig is this one: “I will do MANUALLY 100 Dofollow Social Bookmarking and Ping the links, minimum PR8 to PR2 Bookmarking sites for $5″. I have talked to many people who have bought similar gigs, and the reason I did it, was because I wanted more backlinks and I just don’t have the time to do it myself. I have been a little sceptical, but after I received a detailed report with the links to all my 100 bookmarks, I am not that sceptical. The service I bought was from a man called Kash2u. He was fast, and the communcation was excellent. The report was awesome, but I can’t say much about the results just yet. The bookmarks are there, I know that much.

As for now, I have received the report and it’s impressive and I have checked that the links are there (they are bookmarked), but I’m not sure how long it will take before it will have any effect. I’ve tried to book mark my site on social sharing networks but it never seems to add up to the traffic I get from organic SEO or through stumble upon. I’m going to have to look into this because social bookmarking can be a really pain…

Fun idea for a guest post, Jens, although the post was tough to read and didn’t address the core question: the only way social bookmarking would be any good for “website advertisement” is if people actually see it, which is the main challenge with most sites like that.
I am not entirely sure of their link value either, but they are good to have for diversity.

ys Dave, you are right. Manual submission is the best coz in automated submission sometimes software chooses the wrong category and for this your site will be listed in a wrong category section. You should always choose the manual submission.

I totally agree, dofollow social bookmarking sites with high PR are the most efficient tools to advertise a site, but unfortunately, the best web catalogues, directories and bookmarking sites with dofollow aren’t free. By the way, there are some really nice ones for an affordable price, the free ones are usually nofollow or have a lower PR.

You are right maximum social bookmarking sites are nofollow. but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any value. High pr social bookmarking sites like Digg, reddit, stumbleupon are PR8+ but they are nofollow. Submitting to these sites will increase your website’s backlink, ranking definitely.

I run several reputation management campaigns, so I have the ability to run testing of various techniques on different sites, using one and only one technique to promote a site. I have tested social bookmarking extensively — fully manual, semi-automated via iftttt, SocialAdr, SocialMonkee (both free and premium), and IMAutomator.
I can tell you, unequivocally, that automated social bookmarking works…currently (always have to give that caveat). I have seen ranking boosts of as much as 50 or more positions in the SERPs within a month — and they’ve held. And Google’s indexed backlink count does go up. Also, when done right, i.e., I always trickle the links out over time, and keep them coming on an ongoing basis, I have yet to see any penalties — no drops more than the usual 2-3 position fluctuation.
If you only have one site to promote, getting someone to do it via Fiverr once or twice a month is a pretty good deal. If you want to do it yourself on the cheap, try SocialMonkee and the basic edition of IMAutomator (like $3 a month). If the premium version of IMAutomator ever opens up, you might want to grab it — heck of a deal for $50 a month.
SENukeX is da bomb, but at $150 a month, you’ve really got to be able to justify it.

Depends on the site.
Some things to consider:
1. IMAutomator Pro also does directory, article and RSS submissions vs. just bookmarking. Kinda “SENuke Lite”.
2. How many pages on the site? Is it a busy blog, or a catalog/shopping site, where it would make sense to do a bookmark submission on several posts/pages a week?
3. Are you building a link pyramid to support your money site — WordPress.com, Posterous, Tumblr, Squidoo, HubPages, bookmarking sites? You’ll want to submit those too.
4. Don’t just link to your own site(s) — link to the sites/pages that link to you. Some portion of that boosted authority will rub off on you.
5. Could you sell some services — on Fiverr, or to clients — to offset the cost?
Just some ideas. For me, even having SENukeX, it’s still worth it. SENukeX can do stuff IMAutomator can’t do, and it’s great for building really large, multi-site campaigns. But for $50 a month, IMAutomator is worth it just for the time saved.

I’m more intrigued on the SERP rank results, and the increase in rank per week. Recent Google panda update have affected lots of sites, from page 1 to page 6. But maybe social bookmarking can increase your rank if your site is still not in the top 3 page in Google.

I would definitely agree with you – Social Bookmarking is The Easiest Way to Advertise Website. Once after registering, creating credibility is the most important step that has to be established. Networking among the likeminded people helps in creating virality, which of course helps in advertising and brand building.
Social bookmarking might be the easiest way to advertize a website, but it doesn’t mean it’s the most effective. A lot of factors influence the number of people a certain website reaches, and we cannot base this on only one source. This doesn’t mean I disagree with you, it is a very smart move to sign up to bookmarking sites, but I believe that it should be complemented by social networks as well. Word-of -mouth is a very strong marketing force, and if it can spread among people on several different channels, it is then that it brings the best results.
