I have seen this all across the Internet, and recently I have been kind of fed up with it. I just had to write a little note about this kind of marketing.
A lot of sites, when you visit, tells you that this is a one time offer. If you decide to buy before midnight, the same day as you are visiting, you will get a special one time offer. This could be saving you $20 or more, depending on the program/e-book or whatever you are looking at.
I am not sure if I have fallen for this kind of marketing trick earlier, but I probably have. I have done a lot of stupid things
And I know that a lot of people think it´s just too good to pass up this kind of deal. Most of these sites are using a software from John Delavera called One Time Offer.
I am not sure if this is like lying to your potential customers or not. This script automatically recognizes if you have visited the website earlier, and it gives you an offer based on this. You will get a “one time offer”, but I don´t understand how it can recognize you if you either use another computer (with no cache/cookies historie regarding this site) or use a different IP. In cases like this, I don´t think that the “one time offer” will be a one time offer.
I actually tested a site a couple of days ago, selling a niche software. It told me that they would give me $50 off the regular price if I bought it before midnight on the 30th of December. Well, I waiting to a few minutes past midnight and guess what? I got the exactly same price if I decided to buy it before midnight on the 31st of December.
I am not sure if this is the same script as the one I mentioned above. Either way, this is kind of lying to your potential customers. If there is no such thing as a one time offer, then quit telling your potential customers that there is! But I think this is a very effective markting, you would probably get a lot of new sales this way though.
I guess this is not for me, if it works the way I think.
