The New Rules of Viral Marketing

Marketing

I have just been reading an e-book with an interesting name, The New Rules of Viral Marketing by David Meerman Scott.

First, just a few words of David Meerman Scott. I had no clue who this guy was the day I accidentially stumbled upon his website. It looked awesome, and I saw the free e-book and I thought, why not?

Now, I have read the e-book and a little background information about who this guy really is. Now I am glad I happened to land on this spot on the web.

David Meerman Scott is an author with his own blog, and he has a way with words that makes me want to read more. The topics he is writing about are very interesting and he keeps them interesting all the way through. He is the man behind now quite famous book The New Rules of Marketing & PR.

Now, why is The New Rules of Viral Marketing interesting and why should you read it?

I find four things to be important:

  • It’s completely free and no registration necessary
  • It takes on details about how to spread ideas for free
  • It gives great advice from successful people
  • It shows us how a cool e-book should be designed

… and there are many more reasons why you should download it and start reading it today.

I didn’t know about the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter before I read this e-book. And it was just fascinating to read how Universal Orlando Resort launched their marketing campaign by telling only seven people, and the results were incredible. Apx. 350 million around the world eventually heard the news about the new Harry Potter theme park. That’s amazing viral marketing.

Another interesting idea is launching a blog and giving a way a free e-book in order to advance your career. The e-book describes how Steve Chazin did this with his e-book, Marketing Apple: 5 Secrets of the World’s Best Marketing Machine. By the way, you should download this e-book as well.

If you have written an e-book yourself, you just have to read The New Rules of Viral Marketing. And that’s because it actually tells you how to help your e-book get shared via word-of-mouse. The same goes if you have made a video that you are proud of. David Meerman Scott gives away 9 tips on how to use YouTube for viral marketing.

I find two things to remember, maybe not the two most important things though, but they are important. Nothing is guaranteed to go viral. You can spend a lot of money or hire the best Internet marketers, but there are no guarantees on viralness. Above all, have fun!
