Long Tail Pro – A Video Review

long tail pro

I have been using a software called Long Tail Pro for a few weeks. I have been focusing on keyword research for a long time, and once in a while, I have been using the free Google keyword research tool in order to try to rank some of my blog posts, I got lucky a few times, but I decided to buy Long Tail Pro in order to do some detailed research for my clients.

Long Tail Pro is fast with lots of details

There are three reasons why I decided to buy Long Tail Pro. And, when I discovered how fast it was, and that I got the results a lot faster than I had thought was possible, I was very surprised. Keyword research isn’t that hard, and many times, I spend 10 or 15 minutes, and that’s all. I’m talking about how I use Long Tail Pro to find keywords for my blog posts, not for my clients.

I create campaigns, and find keywords that are related to my topic/products, and I try to find the ones with the most searches. I use Long Tail Pro to filter the results and get the highest numbers at the top. After I’ve found the most interesting keywords, I analyze the competition with Long Tail Pro, to see if I have a chance to get among the top 10 on Google. I’m not going to waste my time to try and beat high authority sites.

Finally, I use the Rank Checker in Long Tail Pro to keep track of how my keywords are doing. I do this a few times a week. And if they’re not receiving a better rank at Google, I’ll try to build some extra links to the post (both external and internal).

Video tutorial of how I use Long Tail Pro

I have created a short video tutorial on how I use Long Tail Pro. Remember, I’m Norwegian and my accent is terrible. But hopefully you’ll understand a thing or two about how to do keyword research using Long Tail Pro.

Three more reasons why I decided to buy Long Tail Pro

I bought Long Tail Pro without reading a single review. I usually listen to people I know when it’s time to buy new products. But this time I decided to test Long Tail Pro all by myself. And the reason was this:

Long Tail Pro comes with a 60 days money back guarantee. I didn’t feel that I was risking anything. Long Tail Pro works for both Mac and PC (I am using a Mac) and it is a one time fee of $97. It’s been about 20 updates since I bought it. They keep improving Long Tail Pro to get better results.

What’s your opinion of Long Tail Pro?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Long Tail Pro and the video I created. Do you do any keyword research? I didn’t used to do any, I just wrote whatever was on my mind, but now that I’m starting a business, I need to focus on traffic.

Jens, first of all, for goodness sake, embrace your accent! It’s lovely!

Second of all, great video. Very interesting and informative and bravo for using a new medium and mixing it up.

Third of all – check out my latest blog post, because your existing Tweet button doesn’t default to include your Twitter handle! You need to add it. Just thought you should know :-).

    • Hi Ruth,

Thanks a lot for the compliments on my accent. I’m not entirely comfortable with it, but I’m getting there πŸ™‚

Your blog post was awesome, and I’ll either have to switch to another plugin so I can include my Twitter handle, or hopefully they’ll upgrade the one I’m currently using. Thanks a lot for reminding me.

  2. Bill Dorman says:

Hey, you aren’t from around here are ya? Interesting stuff; I haven’t done anything w/ keywords so why don’t you let me borrow this and I will see if it works for me.

For what you are doing, I’m sure this will be a good resource for you. It will be interesting to see what kind of results you get, and if it’s what you expected. Keep us posted you pajama wandering, pizza eating, elementary school stalking novelist…….

Hope you are having a good one sir; thanks for sharing.

    • Hey Bill,

It took me a long time before I got started with keyword research, but now I’m hooked. It’s so much fun to see the stats on how many people are searching for what I’ve written and finding it at the top of Google πŸ™‚

I’ll be writing a follow-up post fairly soon.

  3. Sharyn Sheldon says:

    Hi Jens,

    What accent? It’s barely noticeable!

This looks kind of like a simpler version of Market Samurai, which I paid the same price for but which has more features. However, if Long Tail Pro is faster than Market Samurai it could be a good alternative. My MS can be very slow at times. Have you ever tried it as a comparison?

I also have Wordtracker, but just haven’t been able to master it. If I’m in a rush, I often end up going to their free tool or to the free Google keyword tool if I’m just looking for a quick long tail keyword to write a post.

How fast was Long Tail Pro when you want to look at a lot of keywords?

    – Sharyn

    • Hi Sharyn,

Yes, I believe Long Tail Pro is a simpler version of Market Samurai. I’m not really sure about all the differences, but from what I’ve read (and the short period while I tested Market Samurai), the biggest difference is the speed. And now that I’ve read some recent reviews (Ana at TrafficGenerationCafe and Pat Flynn at Smart Passive Income), there seems to be some issues with Google and Market Samurai? What’s interesting with Long Tail Pro is that it uses Google Adwords (and I’m logging in to Google Adwords), so the results seems to be very accurate.

  4. Nicholle Olores says:

Thanks for introducing Long Tail Pro, I think this would help a lot in searching keywords that would fit in any articles.

    • Hi Nicholle,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Right now, I’m using Long Tail Pro every single day and it has made a huge difference in how much traffic I’m receiving from Google πŸ™‚

      • Nicholle Olores says:

Wow, that sounds so great Jens. People will know this Long Tail Pro. πŸ™‚

        • It’s awesome, and I’m so glad that I bought it. I wouldn’t have done it a few months ago, but when starting a business we need to focus on keyword research and SEO, and that’s the reason I bought it. Now, I keep using it every single day πŸ™‚

  5. Jack says:

Jens, your accent isn’t bad at all. You are easily understood. I haven’t done any sort of work to speak of with keywords.

I think about it and have considered it but I just haven’t wanted to do it. The distinction is that I haven’t used my blog to aggressively court business, but you did intrigue me with your review.

    • Hi Jack,

It took me a while to get started with keywords, but now that I have started, there’s no turning back. It’s fairly easy, and I get a lot more (targeted) traffic. I really enjoy testing various ways to write articles to see how much impact it has on Google.

  6. Paul says:

Long Tail Pro looks like a good software program, but am not sure that it truly delivers as much value for the dollar as Market Samurai does. The important thing when using any software though, is that it does what you need it to do. So for the person that is looking for research materials or items to advertise on their site, Long Tail Pro looks to be a good option. By the way, good video and truly your accent does not impact the viewer’s ability to understand the message you are conveying. Thanks for the info.

    • Hi Paul,

You’re probably right when it comes to Long Tail Pro vs Market Samurai. The reason I bought it is because I read several things about the issues Marketing Samurai was having with Google, and because Long Tail Pro is a lot faster, and it has exactly what I need. I wouldn’t use all the various features of Market Samurai, and that’s why I ended up with Long Tail Pro πŸ™‚

  7. Craig McBreen says:

I didn’t pick up on the accent πŸ˜‰

Seriously, I’m loving the new look and the articles. Keep them coming. I still have Clicky and OptinSkin on my “to check out” list. πŸ˜‰

You’re going deep with this stuff, but we need an occasional post about Pizza, man!

    • The accent is getting better, just wait for my next video. You’ll be amazed on how far I’ve come πŸ™‚

You should put Long Tail Pro on your “to check out” list, I managed to make this article to reach the top 10 on Google within a few days, and it’s because of Long Tail Pro and my SEO method… it’s just amazing to see how powerful keyword research is when you do it right.

I’m going to try to write a few business articles and combine them with lots of pizza and creativity. That sounds like an awesome combination to me πŸ™‚

  8. Steve says:

Wow, you said your accent is bad, but I think it is barely discernible.. The Long Tail Pro sounds interesting. I have always been a fan of Market Samurai myself… but with the Rank Checker not really working there, people need some place new (or additional) to check their ranks and do their long tail research. This could be just the place.:)

    • Hey Steve,

I have tested Market Samurai and I really liked it. But, like you said, due to the recent issues with Google, I decided to go with Long Tail Pro. I’m very satisfied with it and I’ve seen some amazing results already πŸ™‚

But I believe Market Samurai is more detailed.

  9. Sergio Felix says:

    Hey Jens,

Well I’m a Market Samurai proud owner and for what I use it, it works amazingly well.

If I’m really concerned about locating a niche and don’t know anything about it, I’d normally start inside Google’s Keyword Tool and then use the results there as seed keywords for Market Samurai and then take it from there.

The content inside MS is compared to Bing’s database and when I have the ending results, I run some manual checks in Google again and that’s it.

However, IF I do know a lot about the niche, I just go inside MS and in less than 20 minutes I have every single thing drilled down.

I think it all comes down to how comfortable are you with the tool and MS is still pretty robust in my eyes.

About Long Tail Pro I really can’t say much since I never reviewed it or used it before but the more available resources, the better!

    PS. I didn’t noticed any accents… maybe I don’t have a trained ear? πŸ™‚

    • Hey Sergio,

I’ve tested Market Samurai too, and it was awesome. MS seems to be more detailed, but I decided to go with Long Tail Pro because it provides me with everything I need, and it’s very fast. And, I also ended up with it because of all the issues MS had with Google (from what I’ve read on other blogs). I don’t do very detailed keyword research, but it’s enough to get me at the top 10 on Google for some interesting keywords and that means more traffic πŸ™‚

I’ve been reading a lot about SEO lately, and I’ll be focusing more on it in the next months. It seems that a lot of businesses in Norway are interested in SEO and that’s where the money is πŸ™‚

  10. Albert Guerrero says:

Search engine Tool is really helpful for everyone because it provide details in short time just, it is save time and money.

    • Hey Albert,

I am receiving more targeted traffic now that I’ve started to use a SEO tool. And I actually thought it was going to be boring, but it’s not. I love looking at the stats and do research to find the right keywords to target πŸ™‚

  11. Vince says:

Well, it’s definitely worth of checking it out. I’ve seen many SEO tools and this one seems to be the one that actually does the trick. And your English is pretty good, Jens πŸ™‚

That would be also nice to hear back from you after a few months of using the software. I rely on you. πŸ™‚

    • Hey Vince,

I’m still hustling with my English, but I’ll keep doing the videos and hopefully it will be all good in a few months or so πŸ™‚

SEO is very important and I keep reading about it and testing various tools to find out what to do for my clients in order to help them. Right now, Long Tale Pro is just plain awesome. It’s very fast and does everything that ordinary people want from an SEO tool, and $97 isn’t bad. It’s a one time fee, and they keep updating the software almost daily (or so it seems).

Thanks a lot for your feedback Vince. Let me know if you have any questions.

  12. Kenneth says:

Thanks for the post. I can see a whole plethora of ways of using the software. Plus, it’s just in the nick of time, because right at this moment I’m thinking a new project of mine. Such a piece of software will come in really handy for me. Thanks, dude. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Kenneth,

I’ve been using Long Tail Pro for a few weeks, and I’ve experienced so many awesome things with this piece of software. I have several posts that ranks at the top 10 of Google and it’s all because of this. And I am using it for a few clients as well, and they’re very impressed with what I’ve done for them (at least that’s what they’re saying).

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Let me know if you have any questions.

  13. Beth says:

Many already proved the importance of long tail keywords. And using this keyword research tool can definitely save much of your time and effort in finding the most profitable keyword for your website.

    • Hey Beth,

Exactly. I have been using it for a few weeks, and the results have been really awesome. I still don’t spend a lot of time on SEO for my own blog, but I am doing a few projects for some cllients and that’s why I ended up buying Long Tail Pro.

      Have a wonderful weekend.

      • Beth says:

That would definitely give an advantage for them. As we all know, not all people are actually making use of long tail keywords for SEO purpose. Maybe its a bit tedious too if done manually that’s why so this software can be a great help, i believe so.

        • It took me years before I started with keyword research, so I totally understand people who are not doing it… but I wish I had started earlier, there is so much to gain if you do it right.

  14. Barry Wells says:

    Hi Jens,

There is nothing wrong with your accent Jens, I understood every word you said with ease πŸ™‚

Thanks for giving us a demonstration of how you use Long Tail Pro it looks really good and very easy to get around. I don’t do a lot of keyword research on a regular basis, maybe for salespages but not for blog posts. I just tend to write and feel that by doing that I include them naturally. However I’m not ranked 4th by Google so i can see instantly that it is something i should pay more attention to.

I have included this post on the Video Blog Challenge page of my blog now Jens. I think it’s an excellent video giving us an excellent demonstration of an excellent piece of software.

Thanks Jens, have a great weekend mate,

    • Hey Barry,

I didn’t do keyword research either, but I have been focusing on it for the past month or so, just in order to help some clients. And I realized that if I was going to help clients, it was time to start testing it on my blog as well.

Thank you so much for including the video in your video blog challenge. That’s an honor.

      Have a great weekend Barry.

  15. Harleena Singh says:

    Informative post Jens!

Ah…your accent is wonderfully different and something that everyone understood- so you can relax about that πŸ™‚

I have heard about Market Samurai from Ana’s and a few other blogs, though never heard of Long Tail Pro. But after having seen the video and read your review, it sure seems something worth giving it a try, especially as it also comes with a money back guarantee- and gives you enough time check it out during that period.

I haven’t really used keywords earlier, though lately I have started using Google Adwords and they seem to be working well too. I wonder how Long Tail Pro is different from Google Adwords? Or perhaps I don’t know the details of Long Tail Pro as yet, I find them similar πŸ™‚

Great move for your business, as you are surely going to take it to the next level πŸ™‚

    • Hi Harleena,

Thanks a lot. I feel that my accent is terrible, but I’m working on it πŸ™‚

I have tested the free trial of Market Samuari and it’s an awesome software. The reason I bought Long Tail Pro instead was due to all the issues with marketing samurai and google. It seems that market samurai has more options and details, but Long Tail Pro has exactly what I need and it’s really fast πŸ™‚

  16. Ileane says:

Hey Jens, nice to see you throwing your hat in the ring for Barry’s video challenge. Nice job! I have Market Samurai and this tool looks like it has some similar features. To be honest, I really don’t get a chance to spend much time on keyword research the way I should. Thanks for the review.

    • Thanks. I want to keep doing videos, and thanks to Barry, I have started again πŸ™‚

I have tested Market Samurai as well, and it was awesome. I understand why you bought it. I don’t do keyword research as often as I should either. But, I’m doing it a lot more now than I used to, that’s for sure πŸ™‚

      • Asma Khan says:

I own MS and have used it for about a couple of years. During that time I’ve probably had as much down time as up time. It seems to hang mid-task all the time. I haven’t been able to get any results in a couple of months.

Always hoping for a fix, but to have the β€œfix” be β€œnow you have to pay for the services we told you were included in the product you purchased” leaves a rather bad taste in my mouth.

I can just see trying that on my clients. β€œHi, remember that consultation I did with you last year? Well, if you want to keep/use the information I provided, I decided you need to pay me $50 per month for the rest of your life.”

  17. James says:

    Good review Jens.

I own the product too and find it great! Very useful for finding the long tail niche keywords I am looking for. Take a lot of the work out of it using multiple tools and looking in multiple locations.

    • Hi James,

That’s awesome. I keep playing with it every single day in order to find something that will turn into either an interesting blog post or maybe a niche site πŸ™‚

      • James says:

Hope you are finding some useful keywords with it.

I honestly haven’t used it in awhile besides checking my ranks. Right now I am focusing on linkbuilding for a couple sites I just made to see if my new target keyword is going to work and rank in Google. Hopefully it does in a couple weeks and then I’ll duplicate the process 100x over! At least that is the plan.

  18. Astro Gremlin says:

Hey Jens, your accent is nothing compared to beings from outer space! πŸ™‚ Very interesting video and tool. My most popular articles have been the result of “longtailing” the title. The short titles have all been taken! Nice job on showing off Long Tail Pro.

  19. Adrienne says:

    Hey Jens,

I can’t believe I missed this post and video. Where was I???

I agree with Ruth, I LOVE your accent. I think you did a great job of explaining this program. I use a paid program for my keyword research as well, have had it a long time now so I’ll probably just stick with it. It also will do long tail keywords too.

I can see why you would want to invest in a program since you’re starting your own business. It will definitely come in handy as you’ve already found out.

    Great job Jens!

    • Hey Adrienne,

Thanks a lot for watching my video and for saying nice things about my accent πŸ™‚

I need it, because I’m going to create many new videos fairly soon.

I have also become a member of SeoMoz, and I’m combining Long Tail Pro and SeoMoz for my clients – that’s a brilliant combination πŸ™‚

  20. Samong says:

    Thank you very much.

  21. James says:

I love Longtail pro as well! I have it as well and it saves me tons of time when doing keyword research. I also love how you can purchase it only once and get a lifetime of free updates. How great is that! Thanks for sharing this cool review of Longtail Pro.
