sly : marketing

Imagine there’s no Heaven

I just listened to it for the 1000th time, and today I thought that I share one of the best song lyrics ever with you. It`s from the song Imagine by John Lennon.

Don`t think about the song, don`t think about the music, don`t compare it, just don`t think about anything at all… just read the text.

Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

But think about how many songs are written, and how few you really get to read or hear. Sometimes it doesn`t matter how beautiful the songs are, sometimes it`s all about marketing. Think about all the crap you hear on a daily basis, why do they get played, because people love them or because of smart marketers?

Anyway, John Lennon was probably both… a musical genius and a smart marketer. The Beatles ruled the musical world and in some ways I guess they still do.

  1. Michael says:

“Marketing” is a very broad word. But it’s true that if you don’t get your song (repeatedly) into people’s ears, they will never know you.

Having said that, “Imagine” also owes its continued popularity to the fact that it is a great song that touches people every time. There are a huge number of one-hit manufactured hits. You’ll find that the songs that hang around have something genuine to offer listeners.
