Well, I actually finished reading it a while ago. It felt like it took about 30 minutes to read it, but it probably took a little longer. I am not sure how long it took me, but I know that I finished it the same evening as I bought it. It was very easy to read and it was 111 pages with lots of pictures.
The reason that I havenīt published a review is that I have been on vacation and I just forgot all about the review. But here it comes, better late than never.
My expectations of the book was pretty high, because the author is Seth Godin, and he is a rather famous marketer. He has written many books, and his story is amazing. You can read more about Seth Godin at Wikipedia (the link will open in a new window).
My first thoughts when I opened the package and saw the book was how small and tiny it was. I hadnīt seen how many pages it was before I ordered it, and when I saw it was only 111 pages I started to think about how good could this book really be, was it possible to get all the information needed about “how to make any website better” in only 111 pages?
The first thing I did was to open it and browse through the book fast. I noticed that it was a picture on almost every second page or so. That means that there are only about 60 pages or so with text, maybe even less. As soon as I started to read, I did understand why all the big pictures were there, they were examples of website design both poor and good design.
The book was very well-written and it was full of great examples of what to do. I am glad that I bought it and that I have read it, but I realize that the book is probably more for webmasters / website owners with some kind of online store. And itīs about how to focus on what you are selling and what you want your visitors to buy and how to get them to buy it as fast and easy as possible (your visitors are monkeys looking for one thing: a banana).
I recommend buying and reading The Big Red Fez if you are looking for many examples on how to make your website better (and I think it will work for most people, even a normal blogger) and especially if you donīt want to read a very theoretical book with more than five hundred pages. Seth Godin has made this book so easy to read that I think all sorts of people will enjoy it.
