It’s been a while since I bought the book, and it’s been a while since I should have read it. Lately though, I have been doing a lot of different stuff, without really seing any outcome. I feel like I have done a lot, but when I look back, I don’t really understand what I have been doing.
That’s going to change, and it all started today.
I have finally started reading Getting Things Done by David Allen, and because I have been reading this book (still not finished though), I have bought an excellent software for my Mac called Things. It’s a task management software. And because I really think that this software is awesome, I have bought the Things application for my iPhone as well.
My iPhone and my iMac, both with Things installed, are being synchronized by using WiFi. All my tasks are updated both on my iPhone and my iMac.
Now, I am really seing results, even though I have only been using Things for about 24 hours.
I can look back at what I have been doing, see all the tasks that I have finished, and see all the unfinished ones. I feel that I am in total control of what I have been doing, and what I am going to be doing the next days or weeks.
And I am still not finished reading Getting Things Done!
I’ll be writing a review of the book, the software and the iPhone application over at marketingflop sometime soon. I just have to finish reading the book, and I have to test the software and the application for a few more days.
But so far, I am thrilled to see such great results when it comes to being productive and in control of everything I am doing (both at home and at work). I realize that it’s only been 24 hours, but it’s really amazing.
Before reading the book and using Things, I tried to remember close to all my tasks, I would scribble some of them onto tiny post-it notes, or pieces of paper that I found somewhere on my desk or close to it. What I am doing now is totally different, and it’s sort of liberating to witness the effect of such a new and highly improved system.
