Facebook Advertising Explained

Finally, my Facebook advertising campaign is running. It happened yesterday, about 28 hours ago or so. It was a little frustrating at first, but I will share that information with you in another post in a few days from now.

Remember, before starting any advertising campaign, I would do what I did before my first Facebook campaign. Be sure to install Google Analytics and use their tag linking tool, it’s a great way to understand how well your advertising campaigns are doing. I wrote about that two days ago, I called it Before the Facebook marketing campaign; not a good title – but the post will help you understand what you should be doing before launching your campaign.

Now, let me tell you what I did to launch my Facebook advertising campaign.

It was like six steps, and I will try go walk you through them.

First, you need to find out how to get to the advertisers area at Facebook. I was logged in when I clicked it, but you don’t have to be. I am not sure if you have to be a member of Facebook to be able to advertise or not, but I was logged in and this is how I found it.

Just scroll to the bottom of your page and click on advertisers. As soon as you have done that, you will arrive at a new page where you will have to click on get started, well, this is the easy way – there might be other ways for more experienced people to get started, but this is what I did.

Now, it’s time to type the destination url, the one you want people to visit. This is your landing page, where hundreds or thousands of people will come during your marketing campaign.

So far it’s been really easy, I don’t believe that you can do anything wrong. But from here on, it’s all up to you how good your marketing campaign will be. But don’t be alarmed, it’s not hard to launch it, just three more steps to go.

You need to tell Facebook what kind of people you want to show your ads to. You need to filter your ad. You could show your advertisement to every member of Facebook, but that would include people below the age of 18, people from all over the world, people that hardly understand a word of english. Instead, you could be showing your ads to people only in Canada, or with certain interests (like computers) and people who are married or with certain political views.

You want to target your ads, you want them to reach people that would be interested in what you have to offer. So, spend a little time to figure out how to filter your ads. I will be writing more about that later.

Now, after you have filtered your ad, it’s time to actually write your advertisment.

It’s not easy to write an advertisement. You want people to notice it, and you want them to click on it, but you only want people who are very interested in what you have to offer. Because there’s not in your interest to have people clicking your ad if they are not interested, it will only cost you money and you will get nothing in return.

Oh, I almost forgot.

You can also include an image in your advertisment. If you upload an image, it will be in your advertisement along with your headline and the rest of your text. The text you write in the body of your advertisement will be visible just below the image.

Finally, it’s time to decide how much money you are willing to spend per click and how much money you can spend a day.

You will get an estimate from Facebook, and you can decide to go with that estimate or you can do what you’d like. You can pay per click or you can pay per view, it’s all up to you.

Soon, I will let you know how my advetising campaign is doing. I will also be telling you everything you need to know about what I did that you should not do, and of course, I will tell you everything that I think you should do. But it’s important that you learn from my mistakes, and I do make mistakes 🙂
