Comments on: Does your Job Title matter?

I am having problems getting my page listed on google. My company is notable with outside reviews from respected journals.

I have created a page with relevant links both within and external to wikipedia.

When i google my company i get everything, including mentions of us on other wikipedia pages but no hit for our specific page.
I haved submited the URL to google.

Help needed!

I was wondering about this simply because I can fit the category of giving information to people who WOULD want it, as well as self promotion. I am a Pro Wrestler, who has a lot of people who at the moment hate my guts but can’t get enough about me. I would like to create a page for the promotion I wrestle for in Portland Oregon which is to this very day 6 years old and gaining a lot of momentum in this area. This area has been spotty for professional wrestling since Don Owens old Portland Wrestling folded in the early 90′s. Coming up here shortly, one of the Owens family, (Don Owens has long since passed) is going to be, all I am allowed to say at the moment, going to be involved and something big is going to happen for our promotion. We currently have CW Bergstrom, oldschool PW’s last champion as our champion. We are reviving a legacy in the Pacific Northwest from the dead. It is a big thing, and fans have a lot of interest in us. Now do you think there is a legitimate reason for a wiki page for the promotion, and then for some of us wrestlers who have helped bring it this far?

It sucks that you have to be a “notable” person to be listed in it. Who’s to say someone is notable?

If you donated half your time to a charity every week, are you notable?

I think so, but I guess some would disagree based on what it is you are notable for in the first place.

I agree that being notable is a tool used by others to promote their service using Wikipedia. Let’s face it, no one that is notable is going to overlook the promotional benefits of having a Wikipedia article dedicated to their service. In the end Wikipedia rewards those that already have a solid marketing footprint and denies others that need more advertising. I like the article, I disagree with the snooty wiki-is-an-elitist-site followup comments.

Hi Joe,

Yes I agree with you, I think I did a poor job in explaining what my thoughts regarind Wikipedia are. I tried to say that “you have to be notable accoring to the Wikipedia definition in order to be accepted”.

Jens: That doesn’t matter. You need to be notable and true too, being truthful in the article isn’t enough! Odds are you’ll get deleted otherwise.
