I Need Your Help To Make a Dent in the Universe

I have accomplished something, something I have only been dreaming about. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post called my new philosophy for a happy life. That was the post where I explained what I’ll be doing in 2014, but, in that post, I didn’t explain exactly why I can’t stop smiling.

The reason I’m writing today, is because I want you to help me share my dream. I want you to try to understand why I am doing it, and I want to see if it’s possible to spread the news about what I’m doing and to see if it’s possible to get the results I’m looking for in 2014.

I’ve launched a Vegetarian Festival in Norway. I launched it together with some fantastic people. More than 4000 people attended the Vegetarian Festival, at the old fortress in Halden. That was the start of something amazing.

I wanted to launch the Vegetarian Festival as a way to help people who are looking for an alternative. I’ve written about why we eat what we eat, before. It’s a difficult question to answer, and I’m not sure if there’s a single answer to the question. But, I’m still looking for the answer, and I want to help provide an alternative. It’s not easy to be a vegetarian in Norway. There are not many options for people who are not eating meat.

One of our goals was to start the Vegetarian Festival, and make it a yearly tradition, so that people, not just vegetarians, can see all the delicious alternatives. The people attending the festival can taste food that they have never tasted, and they’ll learn a lot about alternative food. The next goal was to inspire restaurants in Halden, to start making vegetarian food, and make it available in their restaurants. That’s already happening.

The dream

Now, let me tell you the reason why I can’t stop smiling.

We’ve accomplished the things that I never thought would happen. The next Vegetarian Festival will be inside the fortress in Halden at 30. August 2014, and hopefully even more people will show up than last year. Many of the restaurants in Halden have added vegetarian courses to their menus. That’s already happened, and we started the Vegetarian festival just a few months ago.

Our third goal is to make a dent in the Universe, by helping people in need. We are not charging anything for stall holders. We’re not charging anything for people attending the festival. Everything is free. I’ve already explained the reason why. But, what I haven’t explained yet, is what I thought we would have to work hard for years to accomplish.

Like I said. We are going to make a dent in the Universe, by helping people in need. The Vegetarian Festival is our tool, a method, of accomplishing the third and most important goal. We’ve joined forces with UNICEF, and we’re giving the money we earn to a project in ASIA, that helps improve nutrition security for children. Poor nutrition is killing children. Hunger is stunting hundreds of millions of children in the developing world, and more than 90 percent of them live in Africa and Asia.

This is what I’m talking about. This is the dent in the Universe.

I need your help

We’re going to help save many children. We’ve joined forces with the best in the world. So, we’re definitively going to make this happen. What I really want to do this year, is to get some internationally stall holders. Last year, amazing restaurants and chefs from Norway and Sweden attended the festival. And fantastic people from Argentina, Italy and New Zealand attended too. But they all either lived in Norway or Sweden already. What we would really love this year, is to get people to come from far away, and attend the Vegetarian Festival, either as tourists, stall holders or as teachers/speakers.

We can’t pay any money. On the other hand, we don’t charge any money either. We’re doing this as a charity, to help kids in need and to make the world a better place.

Yes, we’re making a dent in the Universe, and we need your help.

Help us find people that would like to attend our Vegetarian Festival. You can either leave a comment below, contact me, or just help share this post with your friends and followers.

Thank you!

Wow Jens, you’ve achieved so much with the Vegetarian Festival already!

Partnering with UNICEF too is a wonderful thing.

I’ll definitely share this so more people know about it.

I’d love to visit Norway one day but I’ll definitely not make it this year unfortunately.

When I do get there, I hope I can visit the Festival.

  2. If anyone can change the Universe, it will be you, Jens. I will certainly share this widely.

Best wishes for much continued success towards your noble and important goal.

  3. This is a wonderful cause Jens and I’m sharing it where I can. As Tim said, I won’t be traveling to Norway this year but I hope that someday I too will be able to attend this festival. Meanwhile, congratulations on your first festival and best wishes for continued success.

    • Hi Sherryl,

I’m really passionate about festival, and I’m doing everything I can to make it successful. We’ve built a great team, but still, we need to hustle to spread the word and to do everything right. We don’t have hardly any experience with managing a festival, so we’re learning something new every single day.

Now that we’ve teamed up with UNICEF, this is a dream come true, and hopefully, together, we can help children in need.

Thank you so much for helping us to share it Sherryl, and I can’t wait to see you there next year, together with Tim.

Free? You are going to fly me over and let me stay at your place too? Sweet….count me in.

Is that sprouts growing on the roof at your festival; did they get eaten?

I’m sure it’s tough to find enough quality food if you choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle; a worthy effort and cause indeed sir.

    • Hey Bill,

I’m not sure about the free plane ticket, but you can certainly stay at my place for free 🙂

I don’t think that the grass on the roof will get eaten during the festival, but if you’ll come, we’ll see if we can do something about that 🙂

Jens, it’s so nice to see you following your dreams 🙂 What else can we do besides share this for you? I love how you extended the dream by helping the poor children and with UNICEF. What an awesome thing to do Jens.

Jens–this is so incredibly exciting!! I think I’ve only commented here once but I always read your posts but this time I had to comment! I think what you are doing is awesome and I want to come to Norway to visit it!! I really want to do this. Both my husband are I are vegetarians and I’m sure we’d enjoy it, plus I’d love to see Norway. I also will share this. As a vegetarian, I know a lot of blogs that might be interested in this. So happy for you and what you are doing!! So proud I read your blog, haha! 🙂

    • Hi Bethany,

That’s awesome. Thank you so much for your kind words. I’d love to see you at the festival. We’ve been thinking about adding yoga to the festival, and we still might.

      Thanks again!

and i have always wanted to put on a festival of some kind and was recently thinking of a yoga festival, and oh, why not vegetarianism combined in some way since many yogis are vegetarian.
