A Computer Makes Me Less Creative

If you’ve been reading my blog posts lately, you might have noticed that I am testing my brand new iPhone and that I’ve been considering buying a Macbook or a Macbook Air.

At the moment, I am not sure what I’ll end up doing. I might buy it, or I might not.

What I’ve discovered, should make me think twice before I buy a new laptop. The times I am using a computer, are the times I am less creative.

I am a writer and a thinker, and I have realized that I do a better job at both without a computer.

Phase one for me is usually when I do the thinking and when I write my notes. That’s when I capture all my ideas and when I structure them.

Phase two is when I type the draft using a computer. I do a spellcheck and I add a few extra sentences and that’s when I do the proofreading.

Phase three is when I publish what I have been writing or launch my thoughts/ideas.

I only need a computer for phase two and three, and that’s not the creative phases.

My advice to myself has been to avoid the computer phase one, because this is the creative phase, and using a computer just makes me less creative (this means that my work suffers).

The problem still remains, I want the Macbook Air. but I really don’t need it. Actually, I really don’t need a new laptop at all. I just cover phase one using pen and paper, and then turn to my desktop computer during the next two phases.

But I have also been thinking that, owning the coolest laptop in the world might help me be more creative?
