I’ve been updating Traffic Roots with my thoughts when it comes to what types of web traffic you can get, and should focus on. As far as I see it, there are three main categories of web traffic:
- You can pay for traffic
- You can attract traffic
- You can borrow or steal traffic
There are also long term traffic and short term traffic.
I’m going to cover 19 web traffic categories (the list is in no particular order):
- Pay Per Click Advertising
- Banner Advertising
- Text Link Advertising
- Paid Reviews
- eZine Advertising
- Article Marketing
- Discussion Forums
- Press Releases
- Classified Ads
- Social Marketing
- Viral Videos
- Blog Commenting
- Reviews
- Blogging
- Viral Reports
- Search Engine Optimization
- Joint Ventures
- Traffic Exchanges
- Creative Traffic
The reason I’ve named the last category creative traffic, is that this will be about new traffic tactics that I’ve discovered. Traffic tactics that won’t necessarily fit in any of the other categories.
Can you think of any other categories that I should cover in Traffic Roots?

Have you tried link referral, I consider it also as one good way to attract traffic to my website. What do you think?

No, I haven’t tried link referral. I’ll be sure to check it out.
Thanks.

Jens, I am still not a big fan to buy links. It could be dangerous if “busted” by Google.
By the way, you should add Gravatar images for commenters. It’s inspire more people to leave comment

I agree, I’m still using Text Link Ads, but only selling not buying
I’m trying to include “everything” in my e-book, and explain what I believe works and what I believe doesn’t work.

By the way, thanks for the tip… I’ve just added gravatars

You are welcome, many people (especially SEO’s) like to promote their own face or logo. They comment only on web marketing blogs with active Gravatars.
