All Teachers Are Marketers

I’ve talked about the expo we’re having at our college before. I have even suggested that you open the door and invite your enemies inside. Now it’s time to show you how we’re planning to get people to come to the expo.

We’re opening the doors to the public, and we’re giving awesome lectures for free. That’s not all, but the lectures will be the main attraction. And we’re creating videos to let people know about them.

I’m so proud that we have teachers who are looking forward to do videos with me. And the students who are creating them are just amazing.

Let me show you one of the videos. It’s actually in English.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on videos like this.

Do you want to visit our expo and attend this lecture by watching this video?

Hi Jens, Yes, I do! I’m a big fan of science fiction and would love to attend his lecture and his class (and not just because he mentioned smartphones). I would also love to ask him about his experience as an ex-pat in Norway for 41 years. Fascinating.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Jens!

Hello Jens, I watched the video and it made me think that I should attend a lecture from this. I am a fanatic of the science fiction stories and I know the lectures is a big help. Thank you for sharing…

  4. John Armstrong says:

Thank you for posting the video in English! I am sure living in a country like Norway for over 41 years, and if he still being asked such questions is really funny, He must be enjoyig that is why he has stayed in Norway for so long!

    • Hi John,

I was actually thinking about asking him the question, and then he told me this story (I was embarrassed even though I didn’t ask the question) πŸ™‚

I guess he enjoys it. Living here for 41 years is amazing.

Hi Jens this video was really interesting and very nice to see and to know about the video saying and showing in here….

  6. Raj says:

Oh Jens, I would love to attend this lecture – Just request the college to sponsor my flight tickets πŸ˜› πŸ™‚

On a more serious note, the music in the video went extremely well with the content. Good choice. The double camera angle could have been avoided because the side view did not add much value, in this case. Perhaps you might get more views if you also host this in Youtube, as there are more people searching there? Just my impressions…

    • I’ll ask them to sponsor your flight tickets Raj πŸ™‚

I love the video as well. The student who created it, did everything on his own. I didn’t tell him to add any of the special effects. I did the interview and he did the rest.

I agree about the double camera angle. I think it adds a creative touch to the video, but it’s not necessarily and it doesn’t increase the value.

We’ll be adding all the videos to YouTube as well. Thanks a lot for reminding me πŸ™‚

I am a teacher and the great thing with being a teacher and a marketer is that you can impart knowledge to others, it is very easy for you to do that. At the same time you can learn a lot.

  10. Adrienne says:

I enjoyed the video Jens and that’s great that you shared one with us of someone who is from the US originally. Sounds like he’s definitely made Norway his home having lived there for 41 years. That’s a darn long time.

I’m not a science fiction buff but I find it fascinating. Even I could see myself sitting through his lecture.

I think what you are doing is wonderful, opening the doors for everyone to visit your college and see what you all have to offer. I have a feeling this will be very well received.

    Great job!

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed the video Adrienne. Robert has lived in Norway for 41 years. That’s hard to believe. He’s lived here longer than me πŸ™‚

I don’t read much Science Fiction, but I love watching Sci-Fi movies. They’re so different than what I’m used to, I guess that’s why I love them.

When teachers like Robert is sharing his knowledge through free lectures, and promoting them via videos like this, it gets so much more personal. Personal is very powerful when it comes to marketing, and making the college more personal is one of my major goals for 2012.

  11. Ruth - The Freelance Writing Blog says:

Hi Jens. The video was really well done. I must say, I’m not too keen on Science Fiction. I was an English major in University, and I took a course about Science Fiction and it was painful for me to sit through the lectures. So I’m not sure I am the right candidate to render an opinion about whether or not I would be inclined to attend your expo. That said, I can only imagine that this video would DEFINITELY inspire people who ARE Interested in SF to participate! Good luck.

    • Jens says:

      Hi Ruth,

Thanks a lot. I am very satisfied with this video. Robert was awesome. I didn’t have to ask him any questions as all. He was like an actor. I told him what to talk about, and that was it πŸ™‚

I’m glad that you enjoyed it. That means a lot to me.

  12. Bill Dorman says:

Damn Jens, you look much older than your Avatar……oh wait, that wasn’t you? Yes, very good vid and certainly give a prospective student something to get a better feel of what the school is all about. It’s great you have others participating as well.

Of course, we all want to see yours even if it is not in English.

    Man up…….

    • Jens says:

I should probably change my avatar, it’s fairly old, but not that old.. you’d probably recognize me next to a pizza πŸ™‚

Robert did an awesome job in the video, and I’m so glad that we have teachers like him.

By the way, I’m playing the snow and you’re probably wearing shorts πŸ™‚

      • Bill Dorman says:

Well, since I’m still at work, no shorts but it is 78 degrees with very few clouds in the sky. It’s 5 pm and quittin’ time; I’m going to meet the family (my boys are in town) at a BBQ place and I think I will partake in pork ribs tonight. You could have some cole slaw, bbq beans, and potato salad if you came.

Another southern staple is sweet tea; do you have sweet tea where you are?

        • Jens says:

I love cole slaw, bbq beans and potato salad. We do have different types of tea, but I’m not sure about sweet tea. I don’t think I’ve ever heard about it before. What is it?

I usually order my tea from China, and it’s usually green tea.

Have an awesome evening Bill. By the way, I have just bought some Miller beer for Christmas. I usually don’t drink beer from the US, and it’s been a while, but Miller tasted awesome.

  13. Sergio Felix says:

  16. Martin says:

Great video! I like the way it was created, the music, the way they filmed from different angles. This teacher’s presentation sounds promising πŸ™‚

    • Jens says:

      Hi Martin,

The student who filmed this was creative, and added some interesting angles, music and even added some special effects like a very short clip from AVATAR πŸ™‚

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

it’s sometimes very difficult to find decent marketing strategies that we as business owners can use on a regular basis. I will definitely use some of these tips for my Law Firm.
