About

I have no recollection of when or at what time I created this blog. When people ask, I say that it’s all gone and that it’s the future that’s important, not the past. Well, it’s an answer, because I feel like I created this blog in another life, and I can’t say that, can I?

The incentive …

What I remember, or what I think that I remember, is that I first created this blog in order to learn marketing. I believe that I created it in order to get in touch with marketing people, people with a passion for marketing, from all across the world. I wanted to share what I knew, and I wanted to learn.

I’m still writing about my experience with marketing, but I’m also writing about my personal experience in life. It’s a personal blog, and I can’t just write about marketing, although marketing is what it’s mostly about. But don’t be alarmed if I add a few sentences about my eating habits. I write what comes to my mind, and sometimes when I shouldn’t have hit the publish button, I did it anyway.

The writing process …

I try to write all the time, every single day, but most of it never get published. Usually, I publish an article on this blog 3 times a week, but sometimes once a week, and other times every day of the week. What you need to know is that you’ll get fresh content every weeek, that’s a promise.

When I get an idea, I try to write it down, either on a piece of paper, on my iPhone or on my MacBook, or I try to remember it. It all depends on where I’m at. Then, when I have time to write, I sit down where ever I’m located and start writing. I’m not hiding inside an office anymore.

I usually use mind mapping, and a software called MindNode Pro, in order to structure the blog post and add as many thoughts as possible. When it’s time to write, I start by using Concentrate, a software to help me concentrate. It stops all distractions and helps me focus on writing. When I write, I almost always use WriteRoom for my blog posts, and Scrivener for the novel I’m currently writing.

About me …

My name is Jens P. Berget, I’m the author and creator of slymarketing, and I’m usually the only writer. It could be that I add a guest post now and then, but usually it’s all me. I live in Norway with my wife and two kids. I spend as much time as possible with them, but I also spend about 8 hours at work. I have a masters degree in political science, but I work at the marketing department of a college in Norway. The fact that I didn’t know a whole lot about marketing in the first place, what seems like a very long time ago, is why I think I created this blog. Oh, I almost forgot, I’m 38 years old and feel younger than most teens.

Advertise …

I don’t allow a lot of advertisements, but I do allow some. If you’re interested, you need to contact me. I don’t have any prices, and it’s not an automated process. But if you contact me we’ll work something out, and you’d be rather exclusive and get most of the attention. As you can see, I have a few banners up, they’re related to products I personally use. I have also added a few text links, but that’s it. Contact me and tell me what’s on your mind.

My websites …

Slymarketing, the blog you’re currently reading, is where I publish most of the things I write. But I have also created two other blogs. Twitter Virtue is all about my experience with Twitter, Marketing Flop is a blog where I review marketing products.

I personally use …

I’m a big fan of a few products, some products I even use every single day. Here’s a list of my personal recommendations of products I’m currently using.

When it comes to sending out my newsletter, I’ve been using AWeber for many years now. I’m still as impressed as I was when I first started using them. The user experience is awesome, they have more features than I could possibly use, and their customer support has to be among the absolute best.

I joined Third Tribe Marketing many months ago. This is a group of expert marketers, and a community of people just like me who are sharing their marketing experiences. There are seminars, live Q&A’s, a discussion forum and a lot more. This is where it all happens, where I meet new friends. There are so many benefits of being a member of the Third Tribe, this is an amazing community.

I have redesigned the blog many times, usually by hiring a designer. A few months ago I decided to buy the Thesis theme for Wordpress. I was blown away about how powerful and easy to use this theme was, and still is. I haven’t done any adjustments, and what you see is what you get. This is all Thesis, no customization. I’m very satisfied with it, and I don’t think I’ll be buying any new theme for a long long time.
