5 Tips to Become a Better Blogger

To me, blogging is a fairly simple process, but sometimes it's a lot of work. It's not hard to actually publish an article to my blog , but getting the traffic and earning money from my blog is a lot harder. I've been blogging for a while and I'm still not seeing the traffic numbers I'd like to see (I see them a few times a month, but other times they are far from what I'd like them to be). Since I've been blogging for a while, I've learned a few skills, and now's the time to write about the five tips that helped me (and might help you) to become a better blogger.
1. News
As a blogger, if you want to spread news, remember, no one wants to read last month's news. A blogger has to know what's going on in the world yesterday, today and tomorrow. Some important issues stay in the headlines for months, but your audience will want fresh updates on those topics. Knowing what's going on around you and what will interest others will make your blog content worth reading.
2. Updates
I'm not saying that this is the worst thing that could happen to you as a blogger, but losing traffic you've worked hard to attract because you don't update your posts is close to it. Like me, you might not publish an article every single day, but you can be sure that your readership will drop off it you only post once a month. Readers like fresh content and they will go where they can get it. You need to publish a new article at least once a week (that's my opinion). If you need to, you should hire writers to produce interesting content, or buy PLR articles on different topics and post the information on a regular basis.
3. Network
You've got the content, now, you need people to read what you've written. Get your content out there. Register with search engines and join social bookmarking sites like Technorati and Digg so people can see what you are doing. Share your blog address with friends on your profile page on MySpace or Facebook. Use Twitter, StumbleUpon and Reddit. Network with people with the same interests as you.
4. Pay attention
You've got some readers, now you need to pay attention to them. When people comment they would like for you to answer them back. That's one of my many flaws, I hardly comment, if I don't get a direct question. Some ask questions and some just want to let you know that they agree or disagree with what you've said. Unlike me, you should take the time to talk to them. After all, they took the time to visit and post a comment. Commenting will help you keep your readers, and even increase your traffic.
5. Advertisements
Advertisements are a way for bloggers to make money. I am using both banner ads and text link ads, I think that's ok. A few ads are great and will attract attention. If you post too many, however, visitors might be turned off. You want your content to be the main attraction. If you are using ads, they should be coordinated with your niche. That's the way to earn money, and that's when your visitors will be clicking on them.
To me, creating interesting content and keeping readers coming back is an art.
